Devil’s Thumb Lodge
Located: Tabernash, CO
Square Feet: 120,000 Combined
Loop Type: Vertical Bore Holes, Horizontal Trenches and Pond
Upon its completion, the Devil’s Thumb
Ranch & Lodge
will be the largest geothermal project in Colorado. The facility
utilizes all three types of geothermal loop fields. The owner
of the Devil’s Thumb resort not only values saving
money, but he also understands the importance of protecting
our environment. Horizontal trench loops provide heating & cooling
for all 10 cabins (each cabin is 1,000 to 2,000 square ft.).
A pond loop provides the heating, cooling, and hot water
for the 30,000 square ft. activity center. The pond loop
also provides heat for the pool and Jacuzzi as well as for
snow melt. The lodge uses a vertical bore field comprised
of 160- 300ft vertical wells. The vertical bore field is
used to heat and cool all 52 rooms in the 40,000 square ft.
facility.
In the future, the resort plans to
open an indoor pool and spa that will also be heated & cooled
with a geothermal exchange system.
