The Duchesne County School District is a
firm believer in geothermal heating and cooling. The Duchesne
County High School is the second school in the district utilizing
geothermal heating and cooling. When the district decided
to expand the high school, it decided to retrofit the existing
school to also incorporate geothermal. The old school was
heated with a coal fired boiler and had no cooling system.
The geothermal loop field is one of the first directionally
drilled loop fields in the country. The loop field consists
of 4-300ft vertical loops, 3-60ft pump and dump water wells,
and 70-300ft loops directionally drilled at a depth of 15ft
underneath the football field.
